Three tools, one careful approach

Everything runs on your PC. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is written to the drive you are recovering from.

How it works

Four steps, with a clear report at the end.

  1. Choose a drive

Pick the drive, USB stick, memory card or disk image you lost files from. It is opened read-only.

  2. Scan

A quick metadata scan comes first; a deeper signature search can follow for files without records.

  3. Preview and select

Filter by type, name or confidence and preview images, text and PDFs before you recover.

  4. Save to another disk

Recovered files go to a different drive, and each one is checked separately so the report shows what really opens.

Safety first, by design

Recovery tools can make things worse if they write to the damaged drive. FileFix Ultimate is built to avoid that.

  • Read-only source access

The drive you scan is only ever read. No repair, no defragmentation and no "fix the file system" step touches it.

  • Different-disk rule

Saving to the same volume is blocked. Saving to another partition on the same physical disk is blocked by default and needs an explicit confirmation.

  • Honest results

Getting data out and confirming it opens are two separate checks, and the report lists them separately.

What the result badges mean

Recovered · validated

The data was extracted and an independent check confirmed the file structure opens correctly.

Extracted · not validated

The data was copied out, but the file type cannot be checked automatically. Open it yourself to confirm.

Partially recovered

Some parts were found but the structure is damaged. The file may open with missing content.

What no recovery tool can do

We would rather tell you now than after a long scan.

SSD with TRIM

On most SSDs, deleted blocks are cleared soon after deletion. Recovery from an SSD is often impossible.

Overwritten data

If new files were saved over the old ones, the old content is gone.

Encryption without a key

A BitLocker drive cannot be read without its password or recovery key.

Physical damage

A clicking, grinding or disappearing drive needs a professional lab, not software. Stop using it.

Common questions

Is FileFix Ultimate really free?

Yes. There is no trial, no paid tier and no limit on how much data you can recover. The source code is published under the Apache-2.0 license.

Does it upload my files anywhere?

No. The app works fully offline. It does not upload files, does not send telemetry and does not need an account.

Can it recover files from an SSD?

Sometimes, but often not. Most SSDs use TRIM, which clears deleted blocks shortly after deletion. If TRIM has already run, the data is physically gone and no software can bring it back.

Can it recover files from a BitLocker-encrypted drive?

Only if the drive is unlocked with its password or recovery key first. Without the key, the encrypted data cannot be read.

Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?

SmartScreen warns about apps that are new and have not yet built download reputation. Click "More info", check that the publisher is PROJECTTEAMFORYOU, then click "Run anyway". The warning goes away as reputation grows.

System requirements

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
  • Administrator rights to read drives directly
  • A second drive (for example a USB drive) to save recovered files
  • About 100 MB of free space for the app
  • No internet connection needed after download

Verify your download (SHA-256)

Every release publishes SHA-256 hashes. Open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run:

PowerShell
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 .\FileFix*

To check the digital signature and publisher of the installer, run:

PowerShell
Get-AuthenticodeSignature .\FileFix*.exe | Format-List Status, SignerCertificate

Compare the output with the hash listed on the release page. If they differ, do not run the file and download it again from the official release page.

About the Windows SmartScreen warning

  1. On first install, Windows SmartScreen may show a warning once because this is a new app.
  2. Click "More info", then "Run anyway".
  3. Check that the publisher shows PROJECTTEAMFORYOU — that is the real verification.
  4. The warning disappears as the app builds reputation.
